COLOR THEORY

Having a basic understanding of color will help build your brand. In this do it yourself age, knowing what colors compliment each other will help in building your stationary peices. The psychology of color will help you understand peoples response to color. Knowing why political figures wear black suites with blue or red ties?Or, why tv geuss sit in a green room before the show? Below is a color wheel which give the basis of color theory.

There are two color models, subtractive color and additive color.Subtractive color relates to printing, painting, and inks. The color wheel above is from the subtractive color model. Red, blue and yellow are the primary colors. These colors added together make up all other colors. In the printing world it is CMYK ( cyan, magenta, yellow, and black).

Hue, Saturation, and Value, are the big three in color theory.

Hue is the color

Saturation is a reference to the strength of the hue in the color.

Value is a reference to the lightness or darkness of the hue.

Below is a Saturation and Value chart in one hue.
